Working with clip art in MS Word documents and templates

  1. 1. In MS Word - be sure that the Picture Toolbar is selected and visible on your desktop (View > Toolbars > Picture).
  2. Go to the clip art section and double click on the clip art (TIFF) picture you want to insert into your MS Word document.
  3. Save the picture to your computer. (If you cannot save the TIFF to your desktop, go directly to the TIFF's folder and drag the file to your desktop.) Make sure you remember the file name you provided when saving it.
  4. Back in MS Word, go to the Insert Menu and select (Picture > From File). Find the file that you just saved and hit Insert. The picture will appear in your MS Word document.

The picture comes into the document "In Line With Text." This means that the picture is locked in place.

If, instead, you wish to move the picture around on the page, click on the picture. Then, in the Format Menu, select Picture. Select the Layout Tab in the dialog box and click on Behind Text or In Front of Text. Now, the picture can be positioned wherever you wish.
