Signs Your Car Has Pothole Damage
Those road potholes can do more than just jar passengers.

Failure to avoid a road pothole can do more than just jar you and the other automobile passengers. You may have damaged your vehicle’s ride control system.
A pothole can seriously damage the ride control system in your car, according to the Car Care Council. Should you not be able to steer around one, and you feel a bad jarring motion, don’t ignore it.
You should have the car’s shocks or struts checked to make sure they have not been damaged.
Shocks and struts control how cars ride and handle, acting as a cushion to dampen the bouncing action that comes from the car’s springs. They absorb road bumps, and without them, the car would be difficult to control.
Shocks and struts also control spring and suspension movement to keep tires in contact with the road. This affects steering, stability, and even braking. A broken shock or strut could alter steering and handling of the vehicle and create a driving hazard.
Here are some warnings signs you may have damage, if the vehicle:
- Rolls or sways on turns
- Sits lower in the front or rear
- Is leaking or has signs of physical damage
- Has a loss of directional control during sudden stops
- Dives when braking
- Thumps when you hit a bump in the road
Don’t wait to get things checked out if you suspect the car has suffered damage from a pothole.
