how it helps

Identifies federal student loan repayment and forgiveness programs

Repayment plans

Depending on your income there are several repayment plans to help make repaying your loans more affordable. Income-driven repayment plans set your monthly student loan payment at an amount that is intended to be affordable based on income and family size. Some of these programs include: Revised Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan (REPAYE Plan); Pay As You Earn Repayment Plan (PAYE Plan); Income-Based Repayment Plan (IBR Plan); and, Income-Contingent Repayment Plan (ICR Plan).

Federal student loan forgiveness programs

There are circumstances that may result in a borrower no longer having to repay their federal student loan. For instance, some or the entire loan could be forgiven in exchange for the individual performing certain types of service such as teaching or performing public service. Loan forgiveness programs include the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, and the Perkins Loan Cancellation Program.
