NEA Healthy Futures

Safe and healthy schools...
A basic right for all.

NEA Healthy Future’s (formerly NEA Health Information Network) mission is to improve the health and safety of the school community by providing information that empowers school professionals and positively affects the lives of their students.

Here are just a few of the NEA Healthy Futures resources created to help advance the health, safety and well-being of you and your students:

  • Red Book – This popular booklet addresses how to manage blood on the job, the steps to take to protect yourself and information on HIV and hepatitis.
  • Breakfast in the Classroom Toolkit – The Breakfast in the Classroom Toolkit was developed to educate teachers and other school professionals about the impact of hunger on learning and new models of addressing hunger in the school setting.
  • The Stomach Bug Book and El Virus Estomacal (The Stomach Bug Book - Spanish Version) – NEA Healthy Futures and the USDA have created The Stomach Bug Book, a booklet designed to inform and educate school personnel on norovirus, the spread of the disease and disease prevention, and provide helpful resources for the school community.
  • School Crisis Guide – This step-by-step resource created by educators for educators can make it easier for NEA leaders and school district administrators and principals to keep schools safe.
  • Supporting Your Students After the Death of a Family Member or Friend – Children often have difficulty concentrating or learning while they are grieving. Helping them through the loss of a loved one can be difficult, but this guide offers helpful information on how to make the transition easier for them and ways to approach the subject in the classroom.
