FAQs
Your questions, answered
Why did NEA Member Benefits change insurance providers for the NEA® Auto & Home Insurance Program?
California Casualty, the NEA Auto & Home Insurance carrier since 2000, is embarking on a new business model, refocusing as a smaller regional insurer. As a result, they will be discontinuing their services in all states except California, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, Kansas, Idaho, and Wyoming. There will be no disruption for NEA members who have current policies residing in these states.
NEA Member Benefits conducted an extensive search to find a replacement carrier with a nationwide footprint to continue to offer reliable insurance, competitive rates, a member discount along with great coverage and services for NEA members. Travelers emerged as the standout choice for NEA members.
Can I continue my coverage with California Casualty?
California Casualty will continue their services only in these states: California, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, Kansas, Idaho, and Wyoming.
I live in New Jersey and received a notice from California Casualty about their intent to withdraw from the state. What does this mean?
As required by law, California Casualty has made an informational withdrawal filing with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance of their intent to withdraw from auto coverage in the State of New Jersey. Under this filing, it is proposed that all auto/home policies will be non-renewed over a twelve-month timeframe. Non-renewals may begin with expiration dates on or after January 1, 2024. You will also receive an official notice of non-renewal in the mail for your auto/home policy at least 60 days prior to your policy expiration date.
No action is required at this time as your policy will remain in effect until your expiration date, at which time you will need to secure replacement insurance.
PLEASE NOTE: The new NEA® Auto & Home Insurance Program is now available and you may obtain a quote and explore the options available by calling Travelers at 1-833-200-3559.
I received a non-renewal notice for my NEA® Auto & Home insurance policy from California Casualty. What should I do?
NEA members who receive a non-renewal notice should call Travelers at 1-866-201-0335 to speak with an insurance representative to obtain a quote or new coverage. To receive the most accurate rate comparison, have your California Casualty policy that lists all your current coverages and limits ready. If you need a copy of your current California Casualty coverage, you can sign-in online or create an account here.
I received a notice from my home mortgage bank saying they will no longer accept California Casualty Home Insurance. What does this mean?
How much time will I have to find a new insurance coverage provider?
For members residing in states where California Casualty is no longer offering coverage, policies will be non-renewed as of the policy expiration date, meaning coverage will remain in force for the remainder of members’ policy term. Members will receive notification from California Casualty approximately 75 to 100 days prior to their policy expiration date. However, members do not need to wait until their policy expiration date to request a quote and apply for or enroll into the new NEA® Auto & Home Insurance Program through Travelers. Call Travelers at 1-866-201-0335 to speak with an insurance representative who can help obtain the coverage you need.
